Speakeasy’s
By Austin Wisdom

When prohibition started, people created secret bars called “speakeasy’s” to allow them to drink. People would go there to hang out and of course drink. They would bribe any cops that came across them. The cops that didn’t take bribes were too few to do anything about it. People made alcohol in their bathtubs for the bars and their own personal use.
A lot of people went to Speakeasy’s so there were many of them. To get in you needed to know the password or secret phrase that they used. They wouldn’t let just anyone in just incase someone was a cop. If you didn’t know the password you could find out from a friend or someone who did. A lot of people found out from friends or family.
Secret bars were good places to go if you wanted to drink because cops took bribes. If you drank at home, you might get caught and not have enough money to bribe the police. Police didn’t care if you drank they just wanted a bribe not to report anyone. If you drink at a Speakeasy then the bar pays the bribes so they can stay in business. They also get the money back from the alcohol you buy so it’s a win/win for the bar.

Ending Prohibition
By Brandon Bosch
Prohibition in the 1920s was hated by almost everyone. Some people made beer and alcohol in their bathtubs. They would sometimes sell the alcohol to others and/or speakeasies. Speakeasies were illegal, underground bars, during prohibition, where people would go and provide a seceret password for entry. They could socialize or just go and drink.
There were many gangs against prohibition. One gang leader was Al Capone. Al Capone was a famous mobster in the 20s. He was the one behind the famous Doomsday Massacure. Al Capone had a bunch of Speakeasies during prohibition. But he was eventually sent to Alcatraz. Basically there were almost no people in the 1920s who liked prohibition.
